New York, New York – Dance music and professional fitness innovator, Cherie Lily, has released her long-awaited new release, The Dripping Wet EP, on February 12th, 2013! The new collection of songs is Cherie’s follow up to her club-banging debut EP, WERK, and was released by Andrew W.K.’s Steev Mike record label.
The Dripping Wet EP features Cherie’s signature Houserobics sound; a genre she created with both big sound-systems and high-energy workouts in mind. A prime example of this cross-genre is in the highly stylized and provocative music video for the EP’s title track, “Dripping Wet.” Shortly after premiering the video on the fashion-tastemaker V Magazine’s website, the video earned a Parental Guidance rating from YouTube for its unrestrained and energetic display of the human body.

Cherie Lily is a multi-certified fitness instructor. She has been teaching aerobics at hot health clubs like Crunch and Equinox for more than a decade and composes her own original music to motivate her students, a rarity in the world of pro-fitness. She reveals that her “classes are good testing ground for my music. I’ll usually sneak a new song into my regular workout mixes and see if it boosts the energy during my group class; to see how people react. If it doesn’t make people sweat, then I go back to the lab and keep recording.”
Party-starting collaborators and producers on the EP include gender-bending artist extraordinaire, Jonte’ Moaning, as well as production and mixing from Richie Beretta, Derek "DJA" Allen (of Mad Decent), Vjuan Allure, and a special remix by Andrew W.K. Speaking on how the collaborations came together, Cherie says, “I’ve been working with Richie (Beretta) for over a year now. We’ve developed a great rapport and love creating new music together. In regards to Jonte’, I had been hearing about him for a long time before we got to meet. He’s a legendary figure in the dance/performance/nightlife circuit and is huge in Japan as a performer and choreographer. I was taking a class at Broadway Dance Center in Manhattan and saw this young man in the front row far exceeding everyone else with his dance moves and skills; and all while wearing high-heels! It turns out it was Jonte’! We’ve been friends ever since.”
Cherie Lily has performed live across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and her stage show incorporates signature leotard looks with a team of high-energy dancers. She has performed concerts with the likes of Skrillex, Amanda Lepore, Larry Tee, Cazwell, Luciana, Icona Pop, Diamond Rings, and Andrew W.K.. Cherie has also been a part of Andrew W.K.’s live touring band since 2005.
While it might be surprising to some, Cherie Lily’s persona and performance style is an outgrowth of her childhood years spent in the punk music and extreme sports scenes. An upbringing that included time in Chicago, Illinois and Eugene, Oregon, Cherie grew up playing piano, guitar and singing, as well as being one of the nation’s first female competitive snowboarders in the 90’s. As a teen, she attended groundbreaking raves in Chicago, witnessing legends like house music innovator, Frankie Knuckles, DJing legendary warehouse events. Cherie has continuously loved the freedom and raw energy of the dance and punk scenes and has incorporated that spirit into all her work.
Speaking on the genesis of the Cherie Lily sound, she says, “My two biggest passions are music and fitness. They both give me a similar rush. Some people might think my stage outfits and performance style are over-the-top, but it’s purely a celebration of who I am and how I feel. I want to encourage and inspire people to feel strong and proud; I just want to celebrate with them! When I met Andrew (W.K.), I was fronting punk bands and he really encouraged me to step out on my own, go big, and incorporate all of the things I love about life into the music I make - that really represents what I’ve become.” Cherie quickly developed a set of songs recording on electronic music software like Ableton, and her new persona began to quickly take shape. She developed her show on stage during indie rock, punk, and live band nights in New York clubs such as CBGB’s, the old Avalon (Limelight), Luna Lounge, Cake Shop, and Lit Lounge.
Nowadays, Cherie rocks high-profile dance clubs and ballrooms worldwide. On Jan 30th, New York City joined Cherie as she hosted a talent-packed dance party to celebrate her new EP release. Santos Party House presented the massive all-night event, hosted by Andrew W.K., with a wide array of DJ’s and live performers, as well as an open Pabst Blue Ribbon bar.
